As semiconductor demand grows, so does the pressure to reduce emissions, cut waste and localise supply chains. Current trend suggests emissions from chip production could rise to 168 million metric tons by 2050. At the same time, 62 million tonnes of e-waste were generated globally in 2022.

Our CEO Kenneth Lee Wee Ching recently shared his perspective with Tech Wire Asia, advocating that refurbishment should become an important sourcing option for fabs. Too often, high-value equipment and parts are discarded long before the end of its operational life.

At GTS, we see refurbishment as both a sustainability solution and a strategic move. By extending the lifecycle of production machines and parts, fabs can keep running at full operational status. It reduces the need for new manufacturing, cuts carbon emissions, and lowers capital costs, without sacrificing efficiency or generating excess waste.
